View Diary: Romney/Ryan Medicaid cuts don't put off pain for seniors (89 comments)

My dad died in a nursing home back in February.  He had plenty of savings and did not need to be on Medicaid.  But I can tell you that if he had been too poor to pay for his own nursing home care, a lack of Medicaid support would have had a severe impact not just on him, but on the rest of his family.

A lack of Medicaid support would've meant that either I would have had to bankrupt myself to pay for his nursing care, see my father basically dumped on the street in a feeble, post-stroke condition to die, or to quit my job, bring him into my home and spend most of my time caring for him myself.

Anyone who thinks a cut off of Medicaid affects only the elderly person who needs long-term nursing care is sadly mistaken.  Anyone except someone as rich as Romney or Ryan (or someone who suffers from psychopathy like they do) who watches their parents get old and feeble has very much in their minds how that long-term nursing care will be provided and how it will be paid for.  This is a deep and gnawing anxiety most normal people in their late-forties and fifties experience.

Republicans are high if they think they can skate on this one.

This aggression will not stand, man.
