  •  The winning response for Reid (15+ / 0-)

is to say that since Romney lied about his taxes when  running for Governor (about his residency), for months, he doesn't get a "Trust Me" pass on his taxes now.

Basically what Rachel Maddow said on August 3.

In the 2002 gubernatorial campaign, it was alleged that Romney had gamed his taxes to qualify to run for governor. The Massachusetts Democratic Party said that Romney had lied about filing jointly as a resident of Massachusetts and Utah, a charge that the Romney campaign denied and denied and denied until the very last minute when they were forced to admit that yes, the charge had merit and that Romney had filed retroactively.
A proven charge that he's lied about his taxes before should get some attention.

    •  Reid doesn't even have to use "Lie" just lay out (0+ / 0-)

the facts of Romney's lie re claiming residence in Utah for tax avoidance and retro paying Massachusetts tax so he could run for gov.

to be eligible for the only office he has held, at the time asking everyone to trust him. He lied on the only return he released from 2010 and had to retroactively submit proof of his wife's Swiss account. He has delayed his 2011 return because, well, who knows what the accountants are trying to fix? if anyone should be saddled with the burden of proof it would be the poor little rich liar.
