  •  My Parents Were Born There (18+ / 0-)

My father was a young lieutenant in the army when all of the above took place. All I can say is that he never talked about it -- never. He would occasionally invoke the "god damned British" or "god damned CIA" but that was about it. Eventually he emigrated to the U.S. and met my mother (another emigre) and here I am.

I always found it somewhat amusing that no matter what would go on in the world, my parents and their friends would always blame the "god damned British" for all of it. They really left a lasting impression on a lot of people.

This head movie makes my eyes rain.

the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 until after the end of World War II, when most of the colonies got their independence, mostly. Most of history during that period consisted of wars between Britain and everybody else, including every other imperial power plus China, and of social, political, and scientific progress and occasional regress in Britain and its enemies. Of course, it is just as much the fault of the Roman Empire, and all of the others through the millennia, before and after.

I am a mix of Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Polish, and Jewish, no doubt with other admixtures, and each of my parts has a story to tell of Perfidious Albion, some of them going back to Roman times. But I don't hate the English. I quite enjoyed the year I lived in the North of England.

      Hey, Mitt! Thanks for ObamneyCare.
