  •  No, I would have an easy time of it (5+ / 0-)

British East India Company: famine in East Bengal that killed a third of the population; two Opium Wars with China; Unequal Treaties and extraterritoriality; and far more besides. Also other imperial monopolies established by other countries in various colonies, including France, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.

De Beers diamond monopoly up until the attempts to rein in the Blood Diamond trade. Founded by White Supremacist Cecil Rhodes, once the most hated man in the world for treating Rhodesia (now Zambia and Zimbabwe) as his personal property, only to be surpassed by King Leopold of Belgium by running Congo as his personal property with his private police force and army. (See Mark Twain, On the Damned Human Race, and Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness.) Numerous other exploitative companies in other mineral extraction industries.

Numerous oil companies. The Anglo-Persian Oil Company, later the Anglo-iranian Oil Company, is at the heart of this disaster in Iran. It paid Iran four British pounds per ton of oil extracted. Oil companies are still ravaging much of Africa and everywhere else they operate.

Degesch, makers of the Zyklon-B poison used in the German gas chambers to kill vast numbers of Jews.

Many other companies in the military-industrial complexes of many other countries and in the international arms trade.

    The tobacco industry.

The global coal industry deserves at least a mention.

But all of the corporate evil palls before the leading countries in the death business: Russia, China, Germany, Belgium, Cambodia, Guatemala, Rwanda, Serbia, Uganda, and the rest.

    Hey, Mitt! Thanks for ObamneyCare.

      especially the last sentence.

    •  Guatemala? You're talking about a corporate (0+ / 0-)

war against the citizens of a country.

Germany?  You're talking about the Corporate State made real.  Or, did you think I.G. Farbin really just wanted to make childrens toys?

Rwanda?  People gone mad with hatred slaughtering their neighbors do not = "state action".

The tobacco industry alone is snuffing half a million a year, every year.  They've been doing that, on this scale, for over a hundred years.

50 million.  Now, do we want to get down to discussing how many die of malnutrition, water borne illness, or easily treatable disease because of corporate interests?

      •  tobacco ads =/= Holocaust (0+ / 0-)

I despise the tobacco industry, especially those on the marketing, legal, and junk-science ends of it.

However, even marketing tobacco (let alone just offering it for sale) is not remotely close to the mass-slaughter in the USSR, China, Germany's Holocaust, Belgium's Congo [and more recent regimes there], Cambodia, etc. Ditto with selling/marketing alcohol, meat, automobiles, guns, and anything else that lead to premature death.

Simply tallying up premature deaths over some period of time is not enlightening.
