  •  it wrecks of weakness? (0+ / 0-)

ha ha ha ha ha....  U now sound like a 'concern troll"

This was a move from strength... weakness would have been to let the Romney's off the Tax Return hook.   Something they keep thinking they are off, only to have team Obama put them right back ON.

and now team obama has begun slowly reeling the BIG ROMNEY fish closer and closer to the boat and the BIG NET they have waiting for Mitt.

the only thing that reeks about this are Romney's refusals and that 'reek' is smelling fishier and fishier every day  :)

    •  Going from requesting 12 years to 5 years (0+ / 0-)

after Romney makes a statement refuting their primary claim, is weak.

There was no reason to call for something different, unless the Romney campaign advanced the ball on their side.

There is more to politics that what appears at face value.

      •  The reason (0+ / 0-)

This offer takes off the table one of the only reasons Romney has given for not releasing his returns... the whole "they'll just keep asking for more" line.

Now Romney's only defense is "they will use what's in my returns against me" -- a statement that raises the question of what exactly is so damaging that he knows it will be used against him.

And with his claim that he has paid only 13% in taxes, he has removed his effective tax rate as the potentially attack-worthy information.

In other words... as of this morning (thanks to this letter) Mitt Romney's only reason for not releasing his tax returns is that they contain something more damaging than the fact that he's paid a far lower tax rate as a multi-millionaire than most middle-class Americans.

judge of how to run against the Romney machine.

either way, I believe you are 100% wrong in your assessment of weakness :)

Obama is baiting Mitt...  same as he has been doing all along.. and Mitt takes the bait every time  :)

if obama did what YOU suggest and just stayed with the original request both the Press and the VOTERS would get bored which would have given Mitt what he is desperately seeking... a way OUT of this mess

I may not be an expert on 'politics' but I have had my share of success at judging ones audience and keeping them interested and imo this was a brilliant move by team obama, and one that I doubt Mitt saw coming and it increases the interest in the basic question "WHAT IS MITT HIDING' while giving mitt less and less wiggle room and NO WAY OUT of the corner he is now in.

btw Politics is no longer politics as you seem to think it is... it is info entertainment and and Obama is winning the ratings war :)

        •  We will agree to disagree (0+ / 0-)

I do not believe pre-negotiating works the way you think it does.  It also shut off potential areas of returns that deserve review.  And it sets a horrible precedent.

Disagreeing does not equate to trolling.  My point is now was not the time to let up.  There were a plethora of other ways to keep the story going with a much higher impact.  Your question is right.  What is Mitt hiding?  I doubt this will have any impact. The response is too easy.  (The President doesn't speak for all other Democrats).  Heck even people here have used that excuse to try to contradict my position.
