  •  A rule of thumb is 15% (0+ / 0-)

    for fundraising and administrative expenses. If you are spending that amount or less, you are a reasonably efficient charity. Some do better. (Some very small organizations may do worse just because they have fixed expenses and not a lot of revenue. But a large one should be able to get to the 15% level, generally).

    •  Spending money to raise it . . . (0+ / 0-)

      . . . is something I understand, and that 15 percent figure sure sounds ideal, and I hope more donors and participants of AIDS walks and rides and other events ask for a fiscal accounting before donating time or money.

    •  It's not that simple... (0+ / 0-)

      ...if you are a facilities based organization its hard to keep below 20%...think YMCA...

      if you use others facilities, or don't need facilities...think Big Brothers Big Sisters....should be much lower.
