  •  An whats Ironic is The Religious Right is (9+ / 0-)

Scared Totally Shitless about anything remotely like a "666 Mark 0f the Beast" ID and the Republican Party is passing Mandatory Voter ID Laws an it's only the beginning.I read that a School in Louisiana is scanning children's hands and there is "Mark of the Beast" outrage about it.So Religious Righties how can you Vote since you've got to use gasp "Gateway IDs" that will usher in the "Mark of the Beast 666 ID" and it was your Republican Party that did it an for what "Earthly Power" and Mortal Greed.

    •  I'm not sure I understand this. (6+ / 0-)

Are you saying that the religious right is scripturally opposed to voter ID?

If so, I find this both politically significant and sociologically fascinating; could you amplify a bit? This might even make good topic for a diary - secular urban people such as myself need to know more about it.

      •  Some of them are...... (9+ / 0-)

There are a number of verses in Revelation that refer to people receiving the "mark (number) of the beast" so that they can buy and sell. The mark is "the number of the beast, which is the number of a man. That number is 666."

This has been interpreted that in the End Times, the Antichrist and his government will require some kind of identifying "mark/number" to buy or sell anything. Receiving this mark identifies one as a servant of the Antichrist. The claim of "mark of the beast" has been raised against Social Security numbers, RFID chips, universal currencies, and many other social developments. Linking the "mark of the beast" to voter ID would put a small number of religious conservatives solidly against it. It would also catapult discussion firmly into Conspiracy Theory territory.

        Less "WAAAAH!", more progress.

        •  I love it (5+ / 0-)

when the Republicans are forced to talk one of the crazier factions of their base down off some imagined ledge, and I do hope they are forced to have this particular conversation quite publicly.

me to the source of your information.  Please?  There is someone that I would love to see it, as I think he's getting more crackpot Repub by the day due to religion and it makes me sad.  I love the guy and keep hoping I can get him out of the "cult mind".
