    was even imagined when I was a kid - being homosexual was still illegal in many states I believe.    It was so much not on the radar screen that gays were hardly ever talked about except as a casual insult (and that appeared around the time I was in high school.)

    Today we can talk about a female doctor or female truck driver and nobody bats an eye, it would have been a joke (and was the answer to a "really hard" MENSA question) back in the day.  

    I remember when it was a big deal when a law case decided that yes, indeed, a husband can rape his wife.

    Ferraro as the first mainstream female Presidential candidate (Dem) and first VP candidate was as shocking as the moon shot.    Well, maybe we haven't come that far...

    One casually made jokes about female drivers.   Female RACE car drivers?   Ha ha ha.

    There is probably more.   Not everything has gotten worse, nor has it gotten better.
