  •  Kent State 1970 Followed Ohio State 1970 (13+ / 0-)

by most of a week, and Ohio State 1970 happened because 2 undercover police poseurs shut the gates to the university. As late as the late 90's the 1970 student gov president had a letter in the school paper naming the 2 agents who have never been prosecuted.

I watched them do it, they stank when they still had only half a dozen students listening to them.

I thought so at the time as I was in it, later a kid was shot defending the trailer-bank by an under-trained over hyped sheriff.

later a bomb went off that killed the janitor at the Faculty Club..interestingly, I worked there on various projects and never saw a memorial for him. That story has popped up again over the years with letters and claims but no resolution.

The FBI Cointelpro involvement was verified by the FBI agent in memoirs later. He said they wound everybody up, when it didn't burn after the rioters (me/us) broke in and set fire to the furniture and file cabinets (A tall cinder block building..little fuel) they came back in the early am with fuel and leveled it to the picture we have all seen.

When I left at 2am it was standing, small fires, people hanging around partying,  and key point, all the police were gone, absolutely no cops around till the next morning if then....it was not burning, only some piles of paperwork smoldering, it was cold and we were standing around them.

I knew several of the main actors here to some degree and was very suspicious some of them at the time. One went on to working in government and is pretty conservative..not well appreciated by the true liberals/radicals there at the time. He's always been my pick for one of the FBI.

My roommate in a 15 person crash pad was older and wore black shoes and socks, and sold me a shotgun....but his heart wasn't in it. His rap was old and tired and everybody 'knew' he was FBI and cared less. He may really have been a beatnik writer :>

The Seth Rosenfield book might be interesting....I have forgotten the name of the book the former fbi agent wrote, I've talked about it before here...
