and on civil rights, including voting rights for black people, yet they are still putting their racist views on full display and have certainly not embraced black people. What republicans say in the moment for political expediency, and what they do through their policies are two very different things. I think the fact that they let Perkins write the GOP platform on marriage tells you how very far away they are from accepting equality for gay people, regardless of what a few of them say.

Heck, it wasn't that long ago we had one Republican saying gays should be put in prison camps and have food dropped on them. And another conservative saying children of gays should be taken away from them.

Republicans are not even close as a party to doing the right thing, just as they still support racist and anti-immigrant policies, never mind that they stick the one black person behind Romney for photo ops and run ads on Univision in Spanish.

the right thing. They'll never stand up for gay rights or even make of show of caring.
What I meant was that using anti-gay hatred to scare people into supporting them, is of declining value. Being anti-gay will be less and less helpful to them as time goes on. They won't end their anti-gay efforts because they've changed their views, they'll stop because it no longer benefits their drive for power.
