    Kippah and yarmulke are the same thing; the former is Hebrew and the latter is Yiddish.  Srugah refers to a knitted type of this head covering, as opposed to one made out of satin, silk, leather, etc.

    Different communities within Judaism have an unofficial type of Kippah that is commonly associated with them.  The knitted type is usually associated with the modern orthodox and religious zionists.
