birth control is not a 'side issue' for most women.  Birth control is an important part of women's health.  Whether you have any children at all or all of the children you are able to love, support and care for at any point in your life, it is not a 'side issue' if you suddenly have a child you can't care for.  I hate the way he refers to it as if it were a little thing, right near the end of the clip.  For some women, at certain points in their life it is 'the thing'.  To me,  his true feelings are revealed in his choice of words.

Chris Cilizza said something similar the other day on the Diane Rehm show. Something like "The election isn't going to be decided on these small issues" talking about women's health.

I sent him a blistering email, asking if life and death was a big enough issue for him. Twerp.

Fifty percent of the population and at some point in EVERY woman's life, birth control is an issue.  When you are young, during your working life, and later in life, you have to worry about your daughter's having access to birth control or your son's girlfriend, perhaps?  It is NOT a little thing.  It just isn't.  It's a really important issue for me, for many reasons,  even now that  my childbearing years are over.

    •  I have to say that it isn't the only issue (0+ / 0-)

but it is a BIG issue.  Women get pregnant, Women carry children for nine months and then mostly WOMEN have the work of raising the children.  I am not negating the work of men in the raising of kids by any means.

Climate change, health care, education are all issues important to me, but BC makes it possible for me to concentrate on those other important issues.  BC gives me the FREEDOM to relax, work, raise the kids I do have (and want) and hopefully make a difference in the world.
