  •  Because defense contractor jobs (15+ / 0-)

    are real jobs.

Teachers, firefighters, cops--they're just moochers. That's not real work.

Gawd, I hate this little SOB.

    •  U.S. defense budget is a mess (0+ / 0-)

There's a lot of things buried in defense appropriations -- medical, scientific, etc. -- that really ought not to be there.  But they are because if they are lumped in with defense, then their funding is less likely to be screwed with.

There are teachers, firefighters, and cops that get DoD money for this or that -- free gun programs for cops, fire prevention grants in cooperation with FEMA, the SEED program for teachers, etc.

Sure, the defense budget is a bloated mess, but there's lots of babies that ought not to be thrown out with the bathwater.

      •  There is a lot of defense spending (0+ / 0-)

that is in other budgets, like NASA.  The unaudited Pentagon budget shields everything in it.

Then there are programs, weapons and facilities the Pentagon doesn't want or need. Congress puts them through anyway. Because every congressional district has a company that makes money from the Pentagon. Congressmen vote for other districts military protection, and of course, the lobbyists make sure the Congress critters have money for voting the right way.

There are plenty of insiders who have discussed the structural and other problems with that sink hole. No babies need to be lost.

Of course Ryan isn't really campaigning against those votes. He only voted for them to cut a deal, like all the other GOP bots, fully intending to change the law when the day of reckoning arrived. They are so full of integrity, it makes you wonder if they will burst something.
