  •  Yeah, either the price just went up or deal's gone (1+ / 0-)

He wasn't even returning phone calls from national party officials yesterday afternoon. Stupidly obstinate? Too shut down to talk? Or on another line making deals? Now that the first deadline's passed, he must be thinking the price just got higher. Or, the party's thinking they'll just leave it on the table and fight somewhere else.

That would be too funny if it comes out years later, that he saw a better deal this way and purposely threw the game two days before the deadline. Even funnier if he then botched the deal and got stuck with nothing.

He's on a mission from God. The usual appeals and inducements aren't going to work with him.

      •  Could the mission include becoming filthy rich? (0+ / 0-)

Maybe he really is incorruptibly crazy, and maybe he really does irresistibly crave the high-profile venue of the Senate for his awfulness to shine out from. That's what I thought too, but for people that awful, money and power are serious inducements. Six years ranting madly in a deadlocked Senate vs immediate reward followed by mad ranting at his own leisure?

But I really doubt that money/fame is the first choice for this guy. I'd have to know more about his personal beliefs to have a sense of what strings to pull. President of Oral Roberts U or National Right to Life? A major role in some mega church?  It would have to be something amazing that he could rationalize would let him do more for the Kingdom than if he were in DC.
