  •  Seems the craziest argument to me. (0+ / 0-)

The easiest time it would have been for the US to get him was before he came to Sweden in the first place.  There are a lot easier countries to extradite to the US from.

The next easiest would have been after he moved to Sweden but before rape charges were being pursued.

The next easiest would have been after he fled to the UK but before the UK court cases.

The next easiest would have been after the court cases but before he fled to the embassy.

From here, what would probably be the easiest way for the US to get him?  Probably letting him get to Ecuador and then having him "disappear", with the deniability that kidnappings in Ecuador aren't that rare.

Next easiest (or easiest, if they don't want a "disappear" approach) would be to let him go to Sweden, wait until the proceedings are done and he's served any sentence he might get, if any, and then go after him, wherever he decides to go to next, so that they don't have to go through all of the extra legal hurdles of the EAW.

Of course, as linked in the article, it's increasingly unlikely the US will ever go after him.
