    With the notable exception of Hurricane Hugo in 1989, a hurricane has never done more than dump a lot of rain on places as far inland as Charlotte.

    Hugo was exceptionally large and came ashore in Charleston, then plowed inland.

    The hurricanes remnants we get, usually, in Greenville, SC, that then usually heard into Charlotte, come ashore in the gulf and then plow north. So they've been ashore for a good while, by the time they get to us, and have lost much or their strength.

    But it can make things miserable for a day and cause some minor flooding.
