    when I quit 5 years ago.  I started with patches and they made me so nervous, I just went cold turkey after two days.  Since then I learned Qigong and breathing exercises that would have made it easier, in retrospect. I made it a point to get up whenever I felt the urge for a smoke and get a drink of water - just something to break the urge and create a better habit.  Good luck to you.
