    They are only slamming them on the very most extreme thing here.

    This ad is not a defense of keeping abortion legal in cases where women seeking abortions aren't victims of rape or incest.  

    All of this talk about whether abortion should be legal or illegal in those relatively tiny number of cases implies that women seeking abortions for pregnancies that don't involve rape or incest should be illegal.  Cuz if it's a question of whether abortion should be illegal even in those cases, surely it should be illegal if you don't have a similar justification, right?  That's the subtext that needs to be fought.

    If you ask me, the defense of abortion rights generally is what needs to be said.  Sure, DNC isn't necessarily the org to do it, but somebody has to.

      However, I believe that the goal of this particular ad is to win an election, and showing your opponent to be extreme and way outside the mainstream is very helpful to that.

      But Democratic leaders in general should be more outspoken about standing up for women's rights on abortion in general, and I would include the president in that criticism.
