    There is a little more process, and the GOP would have to pay for new ballots, but Akin can legally drop out and the GOP can have a replacement candidate on the ballot for several more weeks.

      They can petition to remove him from the ballot. Also, McCaskill and the Missouri Democratic Party can object. Keep in mind the SoS in Missouri is a Democrat. Not saying it  means  they will rule against Akin, but it sure sounds like it will be less partisan than the mess the GOP has caused in Michigan and Ohio.
