The fact of the matter is that he won the primary election when none of these DC insiders wanted him.

He's not going to drop out because they ask him to. Even if he's only polling down by ten right now, this is the worst week of his campaign. If he keeps his nose to the grindstone and gets back to 5 or 6 by October, by the time this fades from people's minds, then all that GOP money is going to come flooding back into his coffers for a final two week push.

Sure, he has an uphill battle. Maybe he only has a 35% chance of pulling it off. But if you were a true believer like Akin -- if you were anyone, for that matter -- and had a 35% chance at a 6 year term as a U.S. Senator, would you turn it down because some douche in DC wanted you to?

He's staying in. This guy is Ozark-Borderlands-Scotch-Irish. This is a socio-ethnic group (think Jim Webb's book) that would rather die than give in or be told what to do by outsiders when they think they're cause is just. Not to be reductivist, but these were the folks behind Bleeding Kansas, the outlaw west (Jesse James), etc. There is no **ing way he's forking over a shot at a Senate seat because douches like Mitt Romney and Reince Preibus want him to. He'd rather go down fighting. And he may -- but if he doubles down and really shows fight, there's a lot of scotch-irish rock-ribbed conservatives in southern Missouri that will rally to him for it. Maybe even enough to win.
