    the purpose of an economic system is to make certain that people's needs are met. Read "Late Victorian Holocausts" to see what a free market can do when there is a food shortage.
      We need to re-examine our economic system before it happens to us.

      Others may feel that the purpose of an economic system is to make the king richer, period.  Everyone else's role is measured in its value to that goal.

      It's a great system if you're the king.

      And people who believe that "knowing your place" and "acceptance of authority" are equal goals to justice and helping those in need will accept such a system.  Much of old Celtic (Borderer, not post-1849 Irish) culture is built on that model, as was the Spanish empire.
