Our local food bank asks for single-serving shelf-stable microwaveable meals, like soups, chili, and so on. Cans of Spam and chicken and tuna, peanut butter - things to make a meal of some kind if you only have a microwave.

Pasta is great if you have a stove or hot-plate to boil the water/pasta. A lot of the poorest in our area are in temporary living arrangements and don't have kitchen facilities some of us take for granted. It was a real eye-opener.

Our church has set up a vegetable garden at our local food pantry - it has been prolific and the food pantry has been able to give away fresh tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and squash this summer in addition to the usual can and box goods.

It often requires more courage to dare to do right than to fear to do wrong. – Abraham Lincoln
