    Actually I believe that Charley made landfall somewhere around Port Charlotte which is much further south than the Tampa Bay area.  It then moved up through the center spine of the state.  My parents live near Haines City and the eye passed directly over that area.

    I figured there had to be a scientific explanation why certain areas, such as the Tampa Bay area, seem to be able to dodge these storms while others seem to get hit quite often.  Thank you for the great explanation.  And stay safe.

      There was also a burst of convection (thunderstorm activity) on the eastern side of Charley's eye, which forced the storm to take a sudden jog east and unexpectedly make landfall south of where they thought it would.

      If you say "gullible" real slow, it sounds like "green beans."
