  •  Why is Powell so stubborn? (none)
It's widely reported (yes even in Corporatist Propaganda Machine circles) that Powell has made negative comments about Bolton behind the scenes in an effort to get the SFRC to cancel the nomination (one suspects--I mean why else do this?).

Why won't Powell speak out openly? Who can he still be protecting?

Well, my guess is it's Colin Powell. He's the only guy currently being protected by not criticizing the White House. If it's not from some secrets or blackmail that the administration has agin'im, it's just the fact of his unwillingness to put his money where his mouth was time and time again.

"The good soldier who allowed himself to be manipulated by the archfiend (Cheney)" is still a preferable (if unfortunate) epitaph to "the good soldier who sold his integrity down the river and wouldn't speak up even when he became aware of the deceit".

That's my guess. But I'd really like to know: Colin, why won't you speak up now?

considering that powell's reason given for not running for president was that his wife "didn't want him getting shot by some crazy." shoulda quit when you were ahead, colin. damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
