His explanation for exceptions to the abortion "rule" is as clumsy as Akin's "legitimate rape" comment.

He could have very well said that no matter how a woman gets pregnant, whether it be through normal conception, rape or incest, he would still consider that fetus as a life to protect. Of course, we have to infer from this that the woman's concerns as to her pregnancy are irrelevant as far as he is concerned. Especially with respect to rape.

But what he said instead by using the words "method of conception", can lead someone to think that he thinks of this as another manner in which a woman might try to get pregnant...which is, of course, an absurd idea for various reasons. Rape is a violent act, as we know, and some women don't even survive the rape.

It would be very similar to their bogus idea that women use rape as an excuse for abortion or as a means of birth control. I happen to think that it is a very valid reason for a woman to consider terminating a pregnancy. At any rate, this should not be a matter that is subject to public morality or legislation, except as rape or incest might be viewed in a criminal case. What is it about individual liberty that these men fail to understand?
