to vote for Obama-Biden or for Romney-Ryan.

Alan Simpson is not on the ballot. He is a tool being used to advance political positions which need resolution and which may or may not be resolved entirely in ways you like.

As an example, the 1965 Medicare Act originally included prescription drugs, but the drug companies were in the position where it appeared that they could kill the entire bill if the plans to have the federal government negotiate prices with them were attempted.

The Chairman of House Ways and Means dropped the prescription drug program and added in Medicaid. Every effort to include prescription drugs after 1965 was killed until Bush tried to implement a prescription drug card in 2001 by executive order. The courts told him that he didn't have the authority, so it was kicked to the House of Representative in 2002 and passed in 2003. It is entirely operated by private insurance companies with no significant regulation by the federal government other than what companies are allowed to compete and what drugs are included in the formularies.

Simpson is a nasty idiot, but a useful one. He can bring people to the table with Obama that would not otherwise be found dead there. His participation will occur (if it does) at a price, and probably one you and I would not like. He may be needed for a larger purpose which includes crappy outcomes that need to be corrected at a later date - hopefully not 38 years later. The 1965 Medicare law was desperately needed, even in its then crippled form. It was finally partially corrected with the donut hole - which ACA corrects.

Your choice is to support Obama-Biden or support the idiots Romney- Ryan. Only fools and idiots will support Romney-Ryan. Those two given power will destroy America as we know it - and walk away laughing and much more wealthy while stepping over all together too many bodies - mostly American.

Isn't anywhere good enough for the working class.  What difference does it make if we die quickly without medicare  health insurance or slowly with inadequate medicare?

If I was a communist, rich men would fear me...And the opposite applies. The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.

      •  I understand. (0+ / 0-)

Nothing less than perfection is satisfactory. If it's not perfect - and right - reject it and keep stopping all collective action of any kind. You, of course, are the judge of what is perfect and what is wrong.

Go right ahead and enjoy your dystopia.

I live in the real world - a world which is much too complex to fit into your narrow little visions. I choose the better of the possible options and opt for incremental improvements. No utopian vision has ever succeeded, but incremental improvements that fit the situation have continuously led to social improvements in the long run, all of which you would reject as not being good enough.

There are a number of good explanations of Bounded Rationality online. Bounded rationality is Herbert A. Simon's Nobel prize-winning description regarding how humans cannot comprehend situations with more than about 7 variables, leading to a series of decision-making techniques which do not require total comprehension of all elements of a situation.

Humans are not mentally capable of more than satisficing as a decision-making strategy except in very simple and limited situations. This limitation has caused humans to develop bureaucracies in which complex problems are broken into simpler pieces and farmed out to experts in departments designed to deal with those pieces of problems. Then hierarchy and power politics is required to reassemble the results of the departmental expert's deliberations and reassemble them into policies.

In engineering terms it's a kludge to get around the extreme limitations of the human rational mind. With the limitation of bounded rationality perfection is simply impossible.

You, sir, are trapped in the fantasy that you comprehend what is going on and can prescribe the solutions that will solve the problems if everyone would just fucking listen to you because no one else has a clue. You are wrong.

So you don't like the choices you are offered (Obama vs Romney) and you demand something that meets your standards. Nothing you can suggest or demand makes a bit of difference at this late date. Maybe you can block any decision or take the wrong one, but you cannot improve the situation over the existing choice before all of us. It's choose or be paralyzed. Paralysis is failure.

The real issue right now is which politician, representing which philosophy, will be elected in November.

Select Romney and America is down the tubes. The man is an ignorant fool representing nasty ignorant self-centered idiots. His wealthy power makers like Edelson/Murdoch/Scaife/Coors/etc. will turn America into a feudal state very much like the bandits in Europe did when they took control of the economic system (agriculture) a thousand years ago and set themselves up as the owners of the land and the guys who ran government. America's current super-wealthy are working hard to create a new hereditary aristocracy and to prevent the central government from controlling them. A similar aristocracy destroyed Poland as a nation for over a century. America's wealthy will be happy for a similar outcome here. Romney/Ryan are their paladins.
