television journalism.  Republicans are used to lying their way through interviews unchallenged.  It's not a surprise to me that someone from the foreign press would take a different approach.  Watch the first few minutes of the BBC's Jeremy Paxman interviewing Chloe Smith, an under-secretary to the Treasury in the UK.  She tries to get away with giving him non-answers to his questions that Americans would take as standard, but Paxman doesn't.  It gets good about 1:05 into the clip:

in the U.S. today, the nation really where freedom of the press was born, is in need of foreign journalist in order to get the facts and report the news, eh?

And Chloe Smith does appear to be a bumbling stary-eyed dumdum.....

Imagine the MSM reporters asking that in an interview with Romney or Ryan, or, or, or.

Actually, I'd like to ask that question of many of the anchors on all the networks. But not of Bashir.  I love that man's segment on MSNBC!

Interesting exchange.  I enjoyed watching it.

interview like that here.  The presenters don't want to
ruffle the feathers of their guests because they might not come back.  The big names help to sell the ads so the host must mind his/her manners.  I'd prefer a system where the guests are reminded that they're public servants and they work for us.
