Antarctica is both colder and heating up more slowly than the Arctic for the reasons I present: the air and ocean currents ringing it are stronger and simpler than the ones up north and it's harder (but far from impossible) for warm air and water to penetrate.

    •  Antarctica could have positive snowfall every year (3+ / 0-)

Antarctica is decoupled by currents, and that keeps warm water with the most thermal mass isolated.

But as water evaporates at the tropics and moves south, it will be flung by stronger storms over the continent, which is high altitude.  Snow falls.

Antarctica is a desert.  If it gets tons of moist air, the ice will grow.  More snow will fall in the middle than is able to melt on the edges.

Antarctica ice survives the glacial minimums we're in.  It's how the cycle works.
