by Michael Grunwald on Amazon.com concerns me a bit because I fear it'll be just a matter of time before Team Romney twists it to feed the narrative that Obama is giving handouts to poor black people.

[The stimulus] includes the largest expansion of antipoverty programs since the Great Society, lifting millions of Americans above the poverty line, reducing homelessness, and modernizing unemployment insurance.
The rabid racist right is going to do and say whatever they are going to do and say regardless. I just hope they don't latch onto quotes and writings such a Grunwald's to support their bulshit, even though it doesn't mention welfare specifically.

point in our society where we make a decision: do we help the needy, or not?  Is it part of our identity as a country to be of assistance to the less fortunate, in order to be humane and to lift up the children--our future--from poverty?  Or, is it our identity to be associated with the 1 percent even though we are the farthest thing from incredibly wealthy?  What I believe is happening, and I've said it all along, is that we as a country have the biggest disconnect imaginable due to the MSM machine: we think we are part of the 1 percent (which means something different to everyone) even if we are accepting government assistance and our kids are in public school.

bad economy. Truthfully, I hope Grunwald's book doesn't get much attention. I see more opporunities for the right to twist it than for us to tout it effectively, at least for now.
