  •  Sacrifice is important, and is best if not in vain (1+ / 0-)

Helvey realized in Burma that the Karen rebels were losing their lives (and putting their people in great danger) through armed struggle- and weren't winning.

Sharp realized that if you use violence, you meet the regime at its strongest point- dictators are formed because of their ability to use violence.

A synthesis shows that if you want democracy and freedom, violence isn't a real solution in most cases. Sharp has spent his life showing how nonviolence can be a solution- if you're willing to put it all on the line.

    •  I had never seen a Sacha Baron Cohen (0+ / 0-)

I had a free coupon from my service provider to watch a film on cable and watched "Dictator".

There is a scene where a character (played by Cohen) is going to be tortured (for free!) before he is killed.

The character ridicules the out-of-date torture instruments and shows no fear.
The nutty torturer feels deflated and powerless.

This is not exactly on the mark for what Helvey and Sharp are saying but I wouldn't be surprised if Cohen has read these writers.
