  •  I had a friend (10+ / 0-)

who was in New Orleans when Katrina hit. I haven't heard from him since. He was a good kid. I met him LARPing online when he was about 14. He was in his early 20's when it hit. I have no idea what the color of his skin was, but he had been in and out of trouble, lived on the poor side of town, and was a good person who was trying his best (and who often asked me for advice on things, some of which kept him out of trouble after). When I didn't hear from him after Katrina I held out hope that maybe he just used that to start over somewhere, completely and had lost my contact info. But reading this, what reality was like in New Orleans after Katrina, I'm beginning to lean more towards that he is gone.
You see, I know him. Seeing all of this, he would have tried to do something. He would have tried to feed kids and help stop the chaos and the abuses of power. He would have been trying to rescue people.
I still hope he just lost contact and restarted his life in a new place. Maybe one day I'll run into Lyntrary again (his screen name, I know his real name but I don't post those things). More likely, he's one of the many lost.
