    To us east-siders, Bloomfield and B'ham were far-away, exotic worlds on the other side of Woodward. Regardless, you could have found clones of Mitt and Ann all over the Pointes—kids who had no intentions of ever living amongst "you people" when they grew up.

      dismay of my mom, who was reared in St. Claire Shores) because of the 11 Mile Road freeway. My father soon after took a job with Ford, and the freeway wasn't completed until after he was "downsized" (not even a word then) in 1979, at the age of 49.
