Rebuilding the middle class is a political and economic idea that deserves a lot more attention than it's getting.  Hopefully running against the plutocrat and the zealot will remind the president that reversing income inequality should be what his administration is trying to pursue.

over the direction of the second term.  I, too, share your hope that this campaign and the R intransigence has helped return Obama to his core oppostion to economic inequality.

But even if there are struggles ahead, with Obama, there is a chance for some good policies and the direction is better.  With Romney we go backward.

As long as Tim Geithner and Eric Holder are important members of Obama's cabinet, I will continue to assume that business as usual is his real agenda, whatever populist rhetoric dresses up his campaign.  Agreed, Romney is far worse, but the pie fights will no doubt start up again right after the election between those celebrating Obama's accomplishments and those demanding a better party than the one he's given us.

      •  I am too, but am far from confident (0+ / 0-)

What I truly hope is that unions like yours will lead an effort to bring the Democratic party back to its New Deal roots.  The fitful efforts we saw in Obama's first term need to become a coordinated campaign to expunge the Third Way corporatism that has taken over the party.  The post-Obama party will be up for grabs come mid-November, and I hope unions lead the way back to a better party.
