Even though the plant closed in 2008, did Obama stop there during his presidential campaign and make some sort of promise to keep the plant open?

    •  Interesting question, but even if he did he (7+ / 0-)

could have hardly prevented the plant from closing in 2008 when he was not yet President.... It's a lying lie told by a great lying liar....

He did not promise to keep the plant open. He said:

"And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.  The question is not whether a clean energy economy is in our future, it’s where it will thrive.  I want it to thrive right here in the United States of America; right here in Wisconsin; and that’s the future I’ll fight for as your president."

"If government is involved, the Janesville Plant will be here for another 100 years.  Government did get involved, and even though the Janesville Plant was closed by Bush, government failed to have it re-opened."

(Also -- a "private" managed bankruptcy that Romney advocated would have re-opened it.)  (Ignore that there was no "private" money available.)

all bullshit, of course, but enough "truth" in the "will be there for another hundred years" for them to stretch it into a lie.

What should kill them here is that it did close in 12/08, before Obama was in.  In light of this, their only argument is that he should have re-opened it.

(btw -- are there other auto plants in WI that were saved and are still operating?  If so, the Maddows, etc. should know about it and throw it back at Walker.)
