I was afraid it would be some place like Xavier University in Cincinnati where a friend of mine works. I was pretty sure it wasn't John Carroll University up here in Cleveland, which is run by the Jesuits and therefore more reality-based. This one is known for being right wing. Why as a gay person did you go there? Scholarship?

Take the "Can't(or)" out of Congress. Support E. Wayne Powell in Va-07.

Oh, what a story. The short version: It was located in the town where I spent most of my childhood, I wanted to go to college a year early and was able to, but my parents said no way was I going to live away from home for my first year of college at age 16 in a city the size of Pittsburgh (an hour away) or DC.

So I lived at home and commuted the first year, but what neither they nor I counted on was me falling in love with the place. (I was young and impressionable, plus a sizable scholarship allowed me to stay. I like to say that I experimented with conservatism in college but have left that destructive lifestyle.) I got my head back on straight (so to speak) a few years later and have been an out and proud gay man and Democrat since.

      •  Ben, repost when the convention nonsense is done (0+ / 0-)

send to the LGBT group when you are ready to repost.  This needs to be read and circulated.

        This is utterly inexcusable.

        Thanks for unearthing it.  Creeps.
