  •  Murdoch is abandoning Romney (30+ / 0-)

according to a must-read article by Michael Wolff in The New Republic, "Mad Murdoch Maligns Mousy Mitt" (link below).

Andrew Sullivan linked to this well-sourced piece. Here's a little sample:

Romney never earned more from the often non-verbal Murdoch than a snort, guffaw, or grimace. Murdoch, whose core political values are more visceral than ideological, marveled at the contrast between the stolid father—George Romney, running a come-from-behind automobile company—and what he reckoned to be the hopelessly superficial son in the private-equity business.
    Worth a read!

pause the concentration of wealth at the top, so the rich guys have nothing to loose regardless.  Democrats really and truly need to take congress and the Supreme court as well.  Blue Dogs have to drummed out.

I agree, that's the reality, but you'd never know it to see how they're talking and behaving. They would clearly prefer a Rmoney presidency or they wouldn't be throwing so much of their own Rmoney at it. Because Obama said bad things about them and hurted their widdle feewings.

What did Obama ever do against them? Particularly after bailing them out, seems kinda churlish.
Though he keeps talking about raising his own income tax rate...Indicating that he is making bank...
Maybe their's trying to keep the black guy out of their club?

Even though I've learned in the past four years to see racism in the most unexpected places, I don't think that's what's going on here. The only color these guys care about is green.

No, I think they are so arrogant, so used to having everything their way and being stroked by everyone they come in contact with, that they were genuinely offended that he dared say anything even mildly critical of them. Bunch of WATBs.

              Can say that again!
I'm in Connecticut, a supposedly liberal state, around people that I assumed were relatively tolerant, racially.
              Bad assumption.
Usually, the ones that aren't are pretty obvious (as a tan person, I might be a little sensitized), but it used to be bad form to let on around here. Tolerance was considered a social grace and a virtue.
              Not any more.
It's the basis of Rmoney's campaign strategy and the motivating force under the entire CultureWar thrust over the past couple decades,"the brown hordes". That's who the TeaBaggers want to "take our country back" from, not Wall Street and Big Bidnez (who WE need to take our country back from).
Obviously, it's not absolutely cut and dried, the ONLY factor, but I see it underlying much of the methods for motivating people to adopt the RightWing's agenda.
Certainly, Greeed is the motivating force behind the actors involved, the lead players. Rmoney's tax rate would drop to 0.89% under Ryan's plan. Then he wouldn't have to do all those questionable  moves to avoid paying his share.
And you're right, for them, race is not the main issue, but they use it as a tool and have since Nixon's Southern Strategy.

              •  Here we are, just a day or two later (0+ / 0-)

and their overall strategy is starting to become apparent. They will continue dogwhistling racists for the remainder of the campaign, but look for it to be more subtle, and probably carefully targeted geographically and demographically.

Now that the "official" campaign season has begun (I know, it feels like we've already been doing this for decades, doesn't it?) and the general public will be paying more attention, they don't want to say anything so blatant that it turns off the independent voters who aren't racists, who like Obama personally, and who voted for him in 2008.

For those voters, they'll use the "we're disappointed in him, just like you, it's OK to change your mind" meme that Romney used in his speech Thursday. Look for a lot more of that from the official campaign, and with the nasty stuff for the base coming from the outside groups. It's a lot more dangerous, since a lot of perfectly reasonable people who are open to voting for Obama are disappointed.
