position before Ryan hit the headlines.  He's a gutsy guy and not following the Democratic habit of ceding territory to Republican bullies. In 2010, the Democratic candidate was surely pro forma.  He spent 0$.
It is shameful that pandering Paul has been in office for seven terms. It is an insult to the voters not to promote better candidates for public service. The Democrats with their stupid "friends across the aisle" have been complicit.

    •  WI-1 isn't all that Republican leaning (0+ / 0-)

WI-1 is about three to four points more Republican than Wisconsin as a whole is (Wisconsin as a whole has a PVI of D+2, WI-1, which extends from Janesville to Kenosha and northward to Southern Waukesha County, is roughly R+1 or so), so Ryan's congressional district is a Republican-leaning swing district that is within reach for Democrats from an analytical standpoint. Janesville, Racine, and Kenosha are the Democratic strongholds of the district, the rest of the district is heavily Republican, particularly the Waukesha County portion of the district.

Compas, who was the person who questioned Paul Ryan's character right after Ryan's RNC speech, tried to recall Republican Wisconsin State Senator Scott Fitzgerald, who is often referred to as "Big Fitz" (in Wisconsin, state legislators can be subject to recall elections). Fitzgerald's state senate district, WI-SD-13, does not overlap with any part of WI-1 and is roughly nine points more Republican than the state as a whole is, giving WI-SD-13 a PVI of R+7 or so. Compas ran a serious campaign despite having virtually zero chance of winning, in fact, Fitzgerald was actually forced to run a serious campaign for the first time in many years in order to keep his job. Fitzgerald defeated Compas 58-41 in the WI-SD-13 recall election.

Zerban is a serious opponent to Ryan, and, now, Lisa Mux, one of Zerban's staunchest supporters, is publicly calling for Paul Ryan to debate Rob Zerban.

Joe Lieberman, Mike Madigan, Andrew Cuomo, and Tim Cullen...why are they Democrats?

      •  Debating is difficult for people who can't (0+ / 0-)

think on their feet.  Campaigning, on the other hand, has been made easy with the advent of "consultants" and "advisers" and speech writers. Reagan brought more with him from Hollywood than his own experience.  He brought a whole coterie of failed speech writers and B movie directors, who stayed to "handle" political candidates and politicians permanently.
The rap about Barack Obama never having held a job is designed to preempt the weaknesses in the careers of both Ryan and Romney.  Ryan driving around in a Wienermobile can hardly be considered work and, other than putting them in cages, Romney can't even care for a pet.
Romney and Ryan have never been without money.  And yet they seem deathly afraid that they might be and so can't resist hoarding as much as they can get their hands on. They fear being obligated because they don't know what anyone else wants.  So, they just say 'no' and insist that nobody should want anything.  They just want more.

As I like to say, It's easy to campaign, it's difficult to debate.
