  •  But there is this telling line from the AP piece: (0+ / 0-)
And the cuts do not affect Medicare recipients directly, but rather reduce payments to hospitals, health insurance plans and other service providers.
    So --

If you are a Medicare recipient, does it matter whether the reduction in your choices/quality of care/etc comes directly or indirectly?

One of the problems facing Medicare (and one reason I would like to replace it with just "care" -- ie, everybody gets covered) is providers who are dropping out of the program, including big names like the Mayo Clinic's Arizona facility. Simply cutting payments to providers without altering the payment for procedure model can't help that cause.

    •  The hospitals & providers already agreed (6+ / 0-)

      to the cuts.

That's what is so ridiculous about this whole flap.

The industries/institutions who are being cut agreed to the cuts in return for MORE paying customers IN ADVANCE.

So all this hand-waving on their behalf is just silly.

They already KNEW this would happen.

is advocating giving money to Insurers and hospitals who have already agreed they don't need it.

        Farcical.

I hope that the quality of debate will improve,
but I fear we will remain Democrats.

Hmmm....that sounds like a pretty big stretch...and obviously doesn't apply to those who've decided that it isn't worth their while to treat Medicare patients any more.

As I get closer and closer to Medicare age (just 5 years ago), it doesn't fill me with warm fuzzies to think the I can have my choice of the least desirable and most desperate "care" givers.

    •  Argreed. The President shouldn't have given into.. (0+ / 0-)

the Republican demand that he cut other programs to pay for a bill they were never going to vote for anyways.
