  •  Lindsey Graham is lost... (2+ / 0-)

lost in a world he has allowed himself to sink into.  I can recall that in human time I admired him.  He seemed still open minded, country above zealots.

Now he just seems Southern, and in an anti-modern way.  He is on the edge of being a crank, a bigot, a racist for sure, but totally anti-modern.

I think that a small amount of me believes that somewhere inside of him is a human person, capable of stepping over the bridge into a world where people who are not white or heterosexual or women have human and civil rights.

Then the other part of me comes back and says, this guy is a died in the wool regression-type guy.  He would be happier back in ante-bellum times.

I think what hurts most is that he ought to be better, smarter.  The person we have as President is biracial but undoubtedly smarter than anyone Graham knows, perhaps even Graham.

and denials, left on low to simmer and slowly evaporate to nothing.

Most obvious is that he's a gay man in the party that hates gays.  His election relies on attracting the votes of those who would like nothing better than to club all the gays (himself) to death.  What does a mind do with that?  His thought processes must be so twisted and inverted that they're scarcely are recognizable as human.
