  •  Been lookin at the maps (7+ / 0-)

While it stalled yesterday the bands were bringing the rain into NC and as you say almost all of SC!!

Those in NOLA are actually saying it's worse then Katrina and not believing it was only a Cat 1, even though the stalling is causing the rain and wind damage.

    •  Public education is sorely needed. Last year's (5+ / 0-)

major problems from Hurricane Irene were from the size of the storm dumping bucket loads of rain over very large areas.

I'm afraid that New Yorkers, having experienced a very well executed emergency plan might be less cooperative next time, since some saw the Mayor's plan as overkill.  But it was really a couple oz of prevention that saved many pounds of rescue operation.

I'm glad to hear that Gov of LA is calling for investment in LA, from our friends at the WSJ:

Mr. Jindal said it’s also important to reclaim areas of Louisiana’s coast in the Gulf of Mexico that have important oil and fishing industries but have suffered heavy erosion in recent decades.

“In many ways it’s investing in the goose that’s laying the golden eggs,” said Mr. Jindal, whose administration has proposed a $50 billion, 50-year coastal restoration and protection plan with federal help.

Might be finally coming around to reality and not the teabag spin, though we'll wait and see, as he stayed home through all this and it's smacking him right in the face!

There was a report I read earlier on how problems might also arise from Isaac and oil from the huge spill being churned up, that could re cause problems for the states and especially LA and it's coast low water refuge area's!
