also would be the first to claim that Obamacare is a 'coupon' system if you mention coupon in your analogy.

Polls show that people believe that when you mention "voucher", they think that is Obamacare, not Romneycare.

Voters are already confused about which plan uses vouchers and coupons and which doesn't.

It doesn't matter if you are talking about food coupons in your analogy and not medical coupons, the voters have been dumbed down enough to grab on to any word (out of context or not) and somehow get it all confused into their thinking.  They makes decisions on redefined words, dogwhistles, and sound bytes.

It is a classic slimey used car salesman approach that the Republicans have perfected in their political approach and the typical voter just doesn't pay attention to the level of detail for them to make a truly informed and understood decision.

    So sad.

    •  So maybe you use "loyalty card and sale prices" (4+ / 0-)

rather than "coupon." Both of those methods of savings share the salient characterstics: they save money for the consumer, and sellers voluntarily go along because it brings in more customers.

    •  I actually haven't had that experience (5+ / 0-)

of people getting the food coupons and the Ryan coupons all jumbled in their minds. But I've also only used this on a pretty personal basis where it's easy to make sure I'm not losing anyone.

Some others in the comments have suggested using something like "preferred customer" or "loyalty card" savings instead, and I think that's a brilliant improvement that avoids the confusion altogether. Others are working on a way to expand the analogy to address the Romney/Ryan voucher plan. I love that the DKos community can grab an idea, add to it, improve it, and run with it! :)

Listening to RNC speeches, I wonder: How can so many wealthy white men be so resentful and vicious when they’re the ones with all the money, power and privilege?

The term "coupon" has not been used at ALL in conjunction with Obamacare. The Republicans are using "stealing from Medicare," which is why there is no confusion between the negatives of each plan.

Where do you get your data?

It is ignorance which is hopeless.
