  •  This is actually (3+ / 0-)

much better than tagging Ryan's plan with the word "coupon", even though I thought that sounded good at first. Like the diarist states, everyone associates the use of coupons with savings for the consumer. Maybe we should focus on the "fixed" amount of the Ryan plan and somehow liken it to the well known phrase "fixed income", which is almost a synonym for "not enough to cover all your needs, especially in the face of rising costs.

    •  yes, that's why I used the Food Stamps analogy (5+ / 0-)

It's a fixed amount, it isn't enough, and a bunch of the groceries you need aren't eligible.

Plus we know how the Republicans react when they hear the term food stamps, so it's a bonus to ties this phrase around their plan's neck.

      •  Food stamps does NOT work here! Not on seniors. (0+ / 0-)

Most have not used food stamps and so do not understand the nature of food stamps. Moreover, they associate food stamps with all the wrong things and so that would TOTALLY distract them from whatever else you try to say!

Do NOT use food stamps when you use this analogy with seniors!!!

It is ignorance which is hopeless.

        •  They don't have to have used them to know what (0+ / 0-)

they are.  That's the point.  The Republicans want to PUT YOU ON FOOD STAMPS.  And most seniors will react in horror to the idea of being put on food stamps.  being put on food stamps is shaming, and undignified, and meager, and frustrating.

That's the choice.  Grocery savings for you versus Romney-Ryan putting you on food stamps so they can pass the profits back to the insurance companies.
