  •  I would have thought 2006 and 2008 were enough (4+ / 0-)

... all the pundits seemed to think so, that the GOP were going to do all this soul searching and regrouping and see where they had gone off the rails and come back humbled and willing to do the work to regain the public's trust. Instead they just doubled-down on the crazy and repeated it so loudly and so often, coupled with a deliberate strategy of obstruction of any positive policies to address the mess they created, that they were able to lie and demagogue and fear-monger and race-bait their way back into partial power.  I hope and pray that this time will be the charm, but I'm pretty uneasy. The defeat has to be decisive, perhaps based on some eye-opening revelation that can't be waved away, not just a few-percentage-points victory because Romney acts weird or Paul Ryan makes a gaffe the week before the election that the GOP can shrug off as Dem voter fraud or liberal media unfairness. The GOP has to be totally discredited as a party or this will never end.
