Ronnie Ray-gun would be the WORST president in the 20th Century, if not history.  It would be nice if the adults in the Republican Party would come back home, so there can be actual political discourse and not some psy-ops PR carpet-bombing war.

    •  I'd place Bush Sr. (14+ / 0-)

      as less harmful than Reagan.

But then thousands in my community dropped dead of AIDS while Ronnie did nothing.

Plus, Reagan began this nonsense trajectory of voodoo economics that we're still trying (harder than ever really) to discredit.

Bush Sr. seems like a place holder. At least he had the wisdom not to invade Iraq.

You're not being "oppressed" when another group gains rights you've always enjoyed.

because he was responsible for extending the voodoo economic devastation for another four years after the Grand Obfuscator.  That, and he was sired Junior, and all of the "daddie" issues that his son wreaked on the world.

          Iran-contra and his buddy Osama.

          Oooops, I mentioned it.

Although Reagan in my mind will always be thoroughly evil.
Even if he was senile.  He was a traitor in the 50s and just as much so when dead.

Junior was just a total loser, and the most hate-filled person this side of Hitler.

          Romney would be no different.

      •  Reagan needs serious reexamination (7+ / 0-)

His Presidency set in motion so many foreign policy crises.  He supported and empowered Saddam Hussein not just during Iran Contra but during the whole 90's, which directly led to the invasion of Kuwait and the sanctions and disasters which followed.  He utterly failed to manage Afghanistan, leading to the rise of the Taliban.

Worst of all, he supported genocide in Guatemala, in Iraq against the Kurds, and supported grotesque crimes against humanity in Angola and Mozambique in a failed attempt to support Apartheid South Africa.

Bush Sr. was bad... Reagan was a horror.  Finally, thirty years later, former President of Guatemala Efriam Rios Montt is on trial for crimes against humanity.  In Guatemala, a country that nobody thought would ever come to terms with its 200,000 plus ghosts.  But in the US?  Popular culture blindly accepts Reagan as a hero, with no critical examination of the historical record of his foreign policy.
