I know nothing about the community of  runners.

How important is Ryan's lie for that world?

I am not a runner, however my 76 year old father is and has been for 40 years. His take is that lying about who is going to gut Medicare is politics, lying about running a sub three marathon when you actually ran a four hour marathon shows you are just a 'damned liar' it proves your character.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

... "all politicians lie" but only a really despicable character would gratuitously lie about his personal best time -- by an hour, no less.

Do I trust you?  Should I trust you with my wallet, with the protection of my family?  Is your handshake worth anything?  Are you a man of your word?  Does your word mean anything?

Paul Ryan is a flash in the pan.  That he has chosen to lie about political or personal truths with complete abandon makes EVERYTHING he says suspect.

Like Romney, he believe that the old fashioned rules of honor, honesty, character, and ethics do not apply to him.  Ambition is everything.

He is the Wisconsin Weasel.  Run Paul Run.

...ran cross country and the two mile on the track team. My best time in the two mile was 10:58. I know because I worked my ass off for that time and it was the actual best I was ever going to do. That's how most runners feel about their personal bests. They don't look kindly on someone who would lie about theirs.

I'm not quite your age and was never a runner or any kind of athlete in school (way before Title IX) -- started running as an adult and have never been anywhere near fast, just persistent. Even I know my best time for a 10K (60:00, many many years ago) and for a 5K (39:37, not as many years ago).

Like Romney, this guy seems to just put words out into the air without caring whether they're tethered to reality at the other end.
