  •  Thanks Bill (0+ / 0-)

You have given me a lot to think about and inspire me to keep going as the weather changes and I spend more of my exercise time inside.

I am impressed that you walked marathons.  I think it is amazing that any one can do that.  So far the farthest I have done is a 5K and for me that was enough.  It was part of raising money and awareness for heart disease.  Most of the women in my life, mother, only sister, grandmother, who died young due to aortic disease (acute aortic aneurysms).   So I am the one on bonus time and I want to feel good and healthy more than anything else and appreciate the gift of life.   After my sister's death, I did research and learned we seem to have a genetic line with the ascending aorta.

I had already been walking when mine was discovered.   I had open heart surgery to repair it and because I had already started walking, my recovery was fast and relatively easy.  That taught me the power of taking care of the body even if it remains just daily walking.

I have read about the alternating walking/running/walking but did not know why.   So I will be trying that starting tomorrow.  Thanks for the insight.  And I will be looking for the book....sounds like something we can all read about.   Seems to me healthy, strong feet are essential to continuing to work on the bodu.
