One official in the Obama administration used the 8 percent number a few weeks into Obama's presidency based information they got from the Bush administration (that's the only information they had at the time) which belied the true extent of the recession.  The numbers were later revised by the Obama administration when they analyzed the data.  In late 2009 or early 2010 the administration said the unemployment rate would remain over 8 percent through 2012.

The unemployment rate is calculated using surveys.  If a person's unemployment benefits runs out and they say they're actively seeking work then they are still counted as unemployed.  If they say they're no longer seeking work then they're not counted as unemployed.

WHY are you talking about numbers from that time period? over three years ago??

      •  You talked about the 8 percent number... (0+ / 0-)

...and claimed the the unemployment rate should be down to 5.5 percent based on what the administration said.  The 8 percent was based on false information.  The unemployment rate is right where it should be based on their later analysis of the numbers.

        •  wow.. your comprehension skills are severely (0+ / 0-)

          lacking.

It's not ME who stated the UNemplyment rate needed to be 5.5% by now-- it was Obama and his people.

go back and read my post/link.

...was never "supposed to be down to 5.5% by now."  And no one in the administration would ever make that assessment especially after they reviewed the economic data for themselves.
