    Bigots seldom seem to realize their own bigotry, and it's right and proper to put the burden of disapproval on them, rather than letting them improperly place it on others.  That's how societies change.
    Historically this goes way back to tribal cultures. Interesting that we are now in a place where a group formerly ostracized into closet lives, hetero marriages and lives of misery, can turn the table on the minority that still wants to ostracize. And this kind of easy, humorous, just blow it off, reaction is much more effective than anything nasty.

      was the coming out movement. It's hard to hate people you know, and many, many more people have relatives and friends who are gay than they ever could have imagined. It has changed our society more rapidly than I ever would have thought possible.

      My sons, one of whom is gay, are convinced that it's just a matter of time until society accords gays full equality. They're 22 and 19, and feel that by the time their generation comes into its own society will look back on the anti-gay marriage movement with shame.
