  •  The whole world's against you (0+ / 0-)

I get it.  Did you even check with the teacher to see what he'd assigned or did you just take your son's word for it?

    •  You can see online what teachers assign (0+ / 0-)

Parents are urged to check on their students grades regularly. When you log in and look at a class and see quizzes and tests and assignments and the note cards are worth 100 points but the tests are worth 30 it seems a little weird. It is all there in black and white and there are no essays or meaningful assignments.

That is fine. Did I ask the teacher if she really told the class there was no time for her to lecture because they had too much to cover? Yes I did. She explained that they do group work instead of lectures because she doesn't have time.

I am very familiar with the AP program and I have taught AP classes myself. I still believe the program is garbage. Even the best teachers are expected to cover so much material there is no way the kids will even be able to remember it all. Done correctly, those classes are 5 times more work than a college class. I have urged both of my kids to take the classes at the local community college and guarantee themselves the credit and the class plus the book will cost slighly more than taking the test. But they still want to take the class because of the extra point on their GPA.

The world is not against me. My son has an outstanding AP history teacher this year. He is magnificent.
