    I'm on my way to the Ashland Grower's Market, our wonderful local farmer's market. All vendors have to grow the food they sell. Yes, some is more expensive but prices drop as demand goes down. So the first local tomatoes are $3 per pound but they will probably be down to $1.50 per pound by today. So wait to buy in bulk for canning or freezing. I also have a big garden and grow a lot of our food. Fresh, local and organic tastes better and has a smaller carbon footprint.

    But the very best reason to buy organic is to not add chemical pesticides, herbicides and fungicides to the already over-burdened environment. Do we need more information than the Bayer pesticide Imidacloprid responsible for Bee Colony Collapse Syndrome?

    Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees.

    Try organic food, or as your grandparents called it, food.
